Overview

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) refers to a collection of lung diseases that result in breathing difficulties. It is the fourth leading cause of death in the world (http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs310/en/).

In many cases, its symptoms can be reduced by engaging in breathing exercises. But because of the lack of knowledge on breathing exercises and the fear of over-exertion, which could lead to shortness of breath, usually, patients cannot complete a whole program of breathing exercise.

The aim of this project has been to develop a tangible interactive device to encourage individuals who are suļ¬€ering from COPD to practice breathing exercises correctly and regularly.

emBreath is designed to guide users through breathing exercises. With multi-modal real-time feedback, users can understand, learn and practice breathing techniques and exercises intuitively. With its portable ergonomic design and versatile features, emBreath could also help users to build the habit of practicing breathing exercises regularly. The safe and motivational exercises empower users to regain breath control embrace an active lifestyle with confidence.
