With smartphones becoming an integral part of our lives, almost everyone seems to fall prey to procrastination during work which adversely affects the quality, if not the efficiency of their performance. This will further lead to poor work-life management should schedules and dead-lines start to snowball, and the areas of implications are limitless. Of the time they situate themselves in, how many hours were actually productive and how many were spent stagnated?
To further investigate this issue, we conducted a research and gathered that students fared badly in terms of time management. Thus, leading us towards the decision of developing a tool to optimize their work habits.
Aimed to psychologically condition the user through enabling their actions, we chose to come up with an application to address their procrastination. NALP is designed to propel the user straight to focused states and sustaining their motivations by introducing time challenges in the form of count-down timers to them. In order to deter them from losing sight of objectives, NALP allows the user to manage the milestones within a task, affording them the opportunity to effectively plan their time proper and engage in productive sessions.
NALP differentiates itself by possessing features regular productivity applications lack. One of it is its ability to react and manage, automatically recommend as well as adjust the timeline and schedules based on the user’s actions. For example, the application will adjust the priority listing of milestones should some be removed, without having the user to do so personally. Through machine learning, analyzing user’s behavior and performance statistics, the application will be able to make suitable recommendations and timely notifications.
In order to fuel the user’s sense of achievement, the application provides statistical reports that allows the user to review his/her progress and development patterns. This feature was implemented with the direct interest of the user’s progression and ability to learn which aspect to improve on through analytical reports powered by the application’s machine learning capabilities.
NALP effectively cultivates a positive habit by addressing the 3 ‘R’s of habit forming. It Reminds the user the importance of proper planning, and through Routine usage of the application will garner Rewards in the form of efficiency and better work life management. However, NALP forgoes the pains of forming a habit by eliminating poor user experience, and the smooth usability of the application will definitely ensure comfortable, beneficial and continued usage.
With the application, we hope to hand over positive control of time back to the users which means they can effectively eliminate the negative effects of poor work-life management and optimize the time on their hands.
