Our inspiration for the Little People™ Apptivity™ Barnyard came from watching young children play with apps and toys. They didn’t view the world as “digital” vs. “physical” but rather moved fluidly between both modalities and even used them together. We therefore set out to reinvent our classic farm playset to reflect how children naturally want to play. The Little People Apptivity Barnyard represents a new level of interactivity, where the app and toy are fully integrated and augment each other. The app provides a rich, living world while the conductive playset and figures provide a new, tangible way to explore this world. Everything works with everything else, just as children expect!

The aim of this project was to act as an initial research probe into this technology, taking a human centered design approach, to explore how the surgeon’s could interact with a system like this. The two main goals were to: firstly, develop a user interface that could display the decision made by the AI algorithm in an understandable way so that the surgeon could enact on it and secondly, develop a standardised workflow for the biopsy, excision and anastomosis procedures as the key theme in this field is a lack of standardisation. The final design of the system has been developed to be controlled by gestural inputs. In a real world scenario, there would be an accompanying manual input.

Today businesses need to make strategic decisions on the fly. Faced with the constant need to adjust plans, reshuffle priorities or reassign employees, they need a way to capture the big picture of what makes their business successful: What resources they have available, and how are they utilized? What is their current and projected workload? Which projects are profitable and on track? Are we taking advantage of the individual talents of teams and matching them to the right projects? How do I keep my creative workers inspired and motivated? How do I give them independence and autonomy, while keeping my finger on the pulse of the business? Current tools either address one aspect of the business or focus on the tactical details, failing to provide this big picture.10,000ft is a design-inspired resource collaboration web application that allows dynamic organizations and the creative thinkers they employ to get a big-picture view of the business, their teams and their projects. The result is a unique ability to make strategic decisions based on real-time, complex data, increased autonomy and independence, and ultimately, more opportunities to innovate.

The idea of Stic Stac Code blocks was born when I realised that most of the augmented reality (AR) based mobile applications out there let children only consume digital content. These apps impress you with polished 3D models, textures and animations, but they lack cultivating creativity amongst its users. Creativity lies in the power of Making and Tinkering and I believe a better part of technology should be designed to foster learning. Thus the question was – How might I design a creative tool that let children manipulate, create and express their unique content?

Australian hip-hop legends Hilltop Hoods and Google Play collaborated to create an interactive music video that harnesses mobile capabilities to capture a world turned upside down, as experienced by band member Dan Smith during his son’s leukemia treatment. Two 3D environments rendered in code are navigable by rotating the phone, translating a personal journey into a powerful digital experience. Each listen on Google Play generated a donation to support young Australians living with cancer.

Paper Phone is an experimental app which helps you take a break from your digital world, by printing a personal booklet of the information you’ll need that day. Printed versions of the functions you use most such as contacts, calendars and maps let you get things done in a calmer way and help you concentrate on the things that matter most.

The Philippines has storied history of labor export – with Filipinos working all over the world in various industries. Among these migrant workers, Filipino domestic helpers bring a huge yet complicated impact to Filipino society at the familial level, as many of them are mothers absent from home life. Though there is no shortage of tools in this technological society with instant messaging & video calls, there are facets of the migrant worker’s life that are expressed in the culture of transnational gift-giving.

Individuals with cerebral palsy live in a world that is not designed for them. Even simple tasks, like holding a computer mouse, can be a challenge. It’s the objects we design that create these barriers for them. Adæpt wants to help by designing a computer accessible tool that enables people with cerebral palsy to access the digital world without limitations.

Sniffing out the Differences is a series of olfactory and multi-sensory interactive installations dealing with extremely critical cultural issues such as identity formation and xenophobia. It consists of 5 installations – Jallianwala Bagh, Identity stories, Mir Abdul Attarwala, Xeno 500, and Diversity in us and was exhibited at the State Art Gallery, Hyderabad, and Pratt Institute, New York. Each installation was designed specifically to engage the audience, both within India and abroad, through a showing of the common, yet unknown and allowed them to introspect and fill in the missing gaps.
