Background
It’s been 12 years since a collective of designers brainstormed what would become the Interaction Awards–IxDA’s celebrated annual event. The Awards honor design craft, leadership, and innovation–recognizing excellence in Interaction Design across domains, channels, environments, and cultures.
The Interaction Design Association has evolved into a global network of more than 100,000 individuals, and local groups worldwide. IxDA’s mission is to focus on interaction design issues for every practitioner, at every level of experience. Good or bad–design is everywhere. From architecture to earbuds to everyday objects like a toothbrush–virtually everything has been designed for human utilization.
Interaction Design is about people—specifically, how individuals interact with one other and their environment. The Interaction Awards honor best-in-class executions and solutions–work that helps build meaningful relationships between people and the products and services they use, every day.
The Interaction Design Awards are a tribute to our chosen path, and we encourage everyone to take part–welcoming entries created by individuals, companies, and design students.
Why Enter
Our goal with these awards is to help the world appreciate the range and importance of Interaction Design. Every entry is considered and reviewed first by IxDA's Peer Review team. Shortlisted entries are then evaluated by our Awards jury, composed of industry leaders, hiring managers, and industry peers.
All shortlisted entries receive a certificate and digital badging. Projects are announced on the Interaction Awards website and eligible for the People's Choice Award.
Finalists and winning work is added to our living library— created to help people discover the best work and uncover trends, insights, and talent that defines excellence. Winning and finalist work is also featured throughout the year by IxDA— on our social media, and as case studies that celebrate designers and their processes.
Equal Opportunity
We are fully committed to promoting inclusion and diversity within the Interaction Design community and to ensuring that all individuals and groups have equal opportunity to submit work and be reviewed.
All applicants are strongly encouraged to submit entries independent of their ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, language, ability, age, education, expertise/experience, region of origin, region of work, or field of design.
Recognition
The jury evaluates submissions to select 'Best in Category' winners, along with Best Student, Best Concept and Best in Show. Our jury chair nominates the Future Voice recipient, and the IxDA community votes for the People's Choice award from all shortlisted projects.

Categories
Interaction categories? We thought long and hard about how to best categorize our work. Platforms, industries and domains say very little about what we actually do. We opted for categories that challenge us to think about the intentions of our work and the nature of the interactions we create: Optimizing, Engaging, Empowering, Expressing, Connecting, and Disrupting. We haven’t made the jury’s job easy, but they’re up to the task. Hear from past jury members about what makes a project stand out.
