Project description

Oli combats loneliness in cities by creating experiences that encourage people to gather and relish each other's presence in public spaces. By simply moving the hands around Oli, one can create tunes and connect with the surroundings.

We live in a growing epidemic of disconnected humans in a connected world. With ubiquitous technology taking over our mundane tasks for ease and perfection, we have subsequently reduced our casual interactions with our fellow humans. Especially in metropolitan cities, face-to-face interactions have been replaced by digital and automated alternatives, impacting the way we connect and engage with others in our society.

Numerous research studies emphasize the significance of these fleeting human connections in combating loneliness and preserving mental well-being. The constant surge in urbanisation has further intensified this global sense of isolation. Projections indicate that by 2050, approximately 68% of the global population will be residing in urban centres.

This makes it even more urgent to address the challenges arising from urbanisation. Oli counteracts this issue by creating experiences that encourage people to gather, relish each other's presence in public spaces. By simply moving the hands around Oli, one can create tunes and connect with their surroundings. Oli fosters connections through music, infusing it with a spirit of celebration and togetherness. In an age where the urban landscape is evolving rapidly, Oli stands as a testament to the power of purposeful design to counteract the disconnect that plagues our modern world. Through sound, Oli symbolises hope, unity, and the enduring spirit of human connection.

The term "Oli," translates to 'Sound and Light' in Tamil, symbolises how it serves as a ray of hope in fostering human connections through the medium of sound.
