Project description

Xiangyang Xin, PhD, founder of XXY Innovation, Professor at Tongji University. Xin holds a PhD in Design from Carnegie Mellon University with interests in interaction, experience, service, and organization design, and looks at how design contributes to transformations of lifestyles, businesses and cultures. He had founded MDes Interaction Design at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and served as former Dean of Design at Jiangnan University and acted as a guest professor in both design and business schools at several universities.

Apart from his educational experiences, Xin has worked on projects with various public and private partners internationally, and served as the president or a board member of professional organizations, including Alliances of Technology and Organization Transformation, Beijing Dragon Design Foundation, China Service Design Conference, China Industrial Design Association; served as a jury member for competitions including IxDA, G-Mark, Red Star, and many others, and so on.

We've chosen Xin because of what the meaning of the Future Voice is. We're looking ahead to where design will be, where will interaction be in the future and what signposts are there and clues to the future. Xin has been chosen because of his positioning within China and he is an excellent bridge between east and west, growing up in China and understanding some of the problems of architecture and development.

He's come to the west and taken PhD program in Carnegie Mellon, master's degrees in interaction design and he's gone back and found what can be taken from the west profitably but also understands what's strong within Chinese culture.

The future of interaction design in a significant measure will be what happens in China, the growth of companies and their appreciation of user experience and how we design good interactions. Xin is the bridge for us.

He makes good choices between academic side and the professional practice side, because in China professors bridge that so well and Xin is an exemplar for that bridging. He's an excellent choice for us.
