Project description
UFOcus addresses the challenges faced by students, particularly those with attention disorders, in a traditional classroom setting. It proposes an interactive and participatory learning system for Primary and middle School classrooms. Using light signals, projections and sound cues to guide students through different stages of the lesson, ensuring they remain attentive and aware of their progress. Each student has access to tokens and tiles, allowing them to actively participate, answer questions, and engage with peers at appropriate times. The system also introduces ice-breaking activities and de-stressing games, encouraging both mental and physical involvement.
By integrating alien explorers as their companions and a colorful spaceship into the learning process, UFOcus creates an immersive experience for students, transforming the classroom into a space of adventure and discovery. The system is design to help also professors as it is integrated with an online community. The aim of the whole system is to enhance attention, engagement, and collaboration among students, ultimately leading to better learning experience.
Milestones
- Conducted research and needs assessment on attention disorders in children and their impact on learning outcomes in traditional classroom settings.
- Formulated the concept with a focus on inclusive learning models for children with attention disorders.
- Developed the initial digital prototype of UFOcus and conducted testing with a group of children to gather user feedback.
- Validate the prototype with educators, psychologists, and experts in pedagogy and received recommendations for further refinement.
- Created a physical and digital prototype of the UFOcus system to demonstrate its functionalities and potential.
